This Week's Recipe

🌽 Creamy Bacon Corn Pasta

Fresh Ohio sweet corn is one of the best parts of summer, and this creamy bacon corn pasta puts it front and center. It's rich, comforting, and comes together in about 30 minutes—perfect for busy weeknights or a relaxing weekend dinner.

🛒 Ingredients

• 12 ounces penne or rotini pasta
• 5 slices bacon, chopped
• 4 ears fresh sweet corn, kernels removed (or 3 cups frozen corn)
• 3 cloves garlic, minced
• 1 cup heavy cream
• ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
• 2 tablespoons butter
• 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
• Salt and freshly ground black pepper
• Optional: Red pepper flakes for a little heat

👩‍🍳 Directions

1. Cook the pasta according to package directions. Reserve ½ cup of the pasta water before draining.

2. While the pasta cooks, fry the chopped bacon until crisp. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels, leaving about one tablespoon of bacon drippings in the pan.

3. Add the butter, corn, and garlic to the skillet. Cook for 4–5 minutes until the corn becomes tender.

4. Stir in the heavy cream and Parmesan cheese. Simmer for 2–3 minutes until the sauce begins to thicken.

5. Add the cooked pasta and bacon. Toss until everything is coated. If needed, stir in a little reserved pasta water to loosen the sauce.

6. Season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if desired. Sprinkle with fresh parsley and serve immediately.

💡 Kitchen Tip

Fresh corn cut straight from the cob adds the sweetest flavor, but if you're short on time, frozen sweet corn works beautifully too. Pair this dish with a simple garden salad and warm garlic bread for an easy summer meal everyone will enjoy.

🌧️ 5 Easy Ways to Protect Your Home During Summer Storms

Summer thunderstorms can roll into the Miami Valley with little warning, bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and lightning. Spending a few minutes preparing your home now can help prevent costly damage and keep your family safe.

🍂 1. Clean Your Gutters

Leaves, twigs, and other debris can block gutters and downspouts, causing rainwater to overflow and potentially damage your roof, siding, or foundation. Make sure water flows freely before the next storm arrives.

🌳 2. Trim Dead Tree Limbs

Inspect trees around your home for dead or damaged branches. High winds can easily bring them down, creating a risk to your roof, vehicles, fences, or power lines.

🪑 3. Secure Outdoor Furniture

Patio chairs, umbrellas, grills, and decorations can become airborne during strong winds. Anchor lightweight items or move them into the garage before storms arrive.

🔦 4. Prepare an Emergency Kit

Keep flashlights, fresh batteries, a portable phone charger, bottled water, and a basic first-aid kit in an easily accessible location. A battery-powered weather radio is also a smart addition.

⚡ 5. Protect Electronics

Use quality surge protectors for televisions, computers, and other electronics. If severe storms with frequent lightning are expected, unplug sensitive devices to reduce the risk of damage.

💡 Quick Tip

Download a reliable weather app and enable emergency alerts on your phone. Receiving severe weather warnings a few minutes early can give you valuable time to secure outdoor items and move to a safe location if necessary.
