Featured Park

Creekside Reserve

Beavercreek, Ohio • A Scenic Greenway & Wetland Park

Outdoors Family Friendly

About the Park

Creekside Reserve is one of Beavercreek’s signature natural areas — a 100-acre wetland and forest preserve following the banks of the Little Beaver Creek. Managed by Beavercreek Parks, Recreation & Culture, it provides habitat for birds, turtles, frogs, and native plant species while serving as a quiet getaway for walkers and cyclists.

The park connects directly to the region’s paved Creekside Trail, a 15-mile route linking Beavercreek with Xenia and Dayton. Whether you’re biking long-distance or taking a short evening stroll, Creekside Reserve offers a shaded, scenic experience away from traffic.

Location & Access

Address: 761 Factory Road, Beavercreek, OH 45434
Trailheads: Accessible from E.J. Nutter Park and Factory Road trail parking.
Hours: Sunrise to sunset, daily • Admission: Free

The Reserve sits along the eastern portion of Beavercreek’s greenway network, less than 10 minutes from I-675. Parking is available near the Factory Road entrance and the E.J. Nutter Park lot, both of which provide paved access points to the main trail.

Trails & Natural Features

  • Creekside Trail: A wide, paved bike and walking path running through the Reserve as part of the regional Miami Valley Trail system.
  • Wetland Loop: Natural surface path with observation points and seasonal wildflowers.
  • Creek Overlooks: Small wooden decks and benches with views of Little Beaver Creek and its riparian habitat.
Tip: Morning hours are best for birdwatching. Bring binoculars — great blue herons, red-winged blackbirds, and migrating warblers are often spotted near the wetlands.

Community Events:

Creekside Reserve hosts several community events throughout the year, including:

  • Boo Bash Trail — a lighthearted Halloween-themed family walk held each October.
  • Spring Nature Hikes — guided educational walks organized by Beavercreek Parks and the Beaver Creek Wetlands Association.
  • Volunteer Clean-Ups — seasonal events to maintain trails and remove invasive species.

Why Visit

Creekside Reserve is ideal for families, runners, cyclists, and anyone looking to reconnect with nature close to Dayton. The mix of wetlands, woodlands, and open meadows makes it a peaceful alternative to busier city parks. Visitors can enjoy the soft sounds of the creek, spot wildlife, and watch the seasons change along the tree-lined paths.

It’s also a great midway stop for cyclists traveling between Dayton and Xenia, offering picnic spots and rest areas along the way.

Visitor Notes

  • Dogs are welcome but must remain leashed at all times.
  • There are no restroom facilities directly on the trail — restrooms available at nearby Nutter Park.
  • Stay on marked trails to protect sensitive wetland habitat.
  • Carry out all trash — this reserve relies on volunteers for upkeep.

Recipe of the Week

🥧 Buckeye Pie (Ohio Favorite)

Serves 8–10 • Prep 20 min • Chill 3 hrs

This creamy, no-bake dessert is inspired by Ohio’s famous buckeye candies. A peanut butter filling rests in a cookie crust and gets topped with smooth chocolate ganache. Perfect for fall gatherings or game-day tables.

Ingredients

  • 1 (9-inch) Oreo cookie crust (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups whipped topping (like Cool Whip) or freshly whipped cream
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, beat together peanut butter, cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
  2. Fold in the whipped topping until fully combined and fluffy.
  3. Spread mixture evenly into the prepared cookie crust. Refrigerate while making topping.
  4. For ganache: Heat heavy cream in a small saucepan until just simmering. Pour over chocolate chips and stir until smooth. Add a pinch of salt.
  5. Pour ganache over the peanut butter layer, smoothing with a spatula.
  6. Chill for at least 3 hours (or overnight) until set.
  7. Slice and serve cold. Garnish with whipped cream or mini buckeye candies if desired.
Tip: Swap Oreo crust for a graham cracker crust if you prefer less chocolate.
Make-Ahead: Pie can be made up to 2 days ahead and stored in the fridge.
Storage: Keeps 4–5 days refrigerated; do not freeze (texture changes).

Variation: Add a layer of crushed peanuts or chopped Reese’s cups on top of the ganache for extra crunch.

Home Tips

🧺 Seasonal Transitions

  • Swap Bedding & Décor: Move to flannel sheets, heavier blankets, and warmer-toned décor for cozy vibes.

  • Closet Switch: Rotate summer clothes out, bring jackets, scarves, and boots to the front.

  • Pantry Reset: Stock up on fall staples — soups, canned tomatoes, baking spices — perfect for hearty cold-weather cooking.
